Buying on Vinted from Australia: why it's blocked, and how to do it

Why it is blocked
Payment declined for an Australian card, and above all no shipping at all: Vinted's delivery options stop at the French border. Over that kind of distance, swapping between expats or a friend's suitcase are the only alternatives — and they depend entirely on who happens to be travelling.
The French community in Australia is large and well organised, and requests to bring purchases over circulate constantly in its groups. That is the sign of a real need, badly served by improvised solutions: waiting for a friend to fly home means waiting months.
What does not work, and will be suggested to you anyway
Three false solutions circulate in every expat forum. A VPN changes what you can see, never what the seller can post nor what the payment page accepts: you will get further down the funnel and hit the same wall. A so-called French prepaid card sometimes clears, often fails, and does nothing whatsoever about delivery. Asking the seller to post it abroad themselves takes them outside the platform's protection: they almost always refuse, and they are right to.
That leaves having it delivered to a friend in France who forwards it on. It works, but it turns your friend into a warehouse hand: they have to take delivery, repack, fill in a customs declaration, queue at the post office and front the money. Fine once. Not three times.

The delivery times we measure to Australia
On our own measurements to Sydney, Chronopost quotes delivery a week after handover, FedEx ten days, Colissimo International about a fortnight. It is a long way, and it shows most on the postal network — but one consolidated box makes the wait far better value than a single-item shipment.
What is waiting on arrival
Australia charges GST on imports above a threshold, and duties depending on the category of goods. Australian customs is also famously strict about anything organic: untreated leather, raw wool, wood, seeds, food. For those categories, ask us before you buy.
What to send us
The listing link, and not much else. If the item comes in several sizes or colours, tell us which one — that is what stops us buying the wrong one. Add anything you already know about the seller if you have spoken to them.
We check that the listing is still live and at what real price, then send you an itemised quote. Nothing is bought before you pay: if the item sells in the meantime, you are refunded.
