How to buy from French Vinted when you live abroad

From abroad, French Vinted is a shop window you can't walk into. It's full of things you won't find anywhere else — French brands, secondhand, at French prices — and you always hit the same wall: at checkout, or when the seller replies "sorry, France only".

This guide explains where the block comes from, what doesn't work around it, and what does. It's written from our warehouse, where these parcels arrive every day.

Why French Vinted blocks you from abroad

One thing first: Vinted operates in several European countries and offers shipping between some of them. If you live in Spain or Germany, part of the French catalogue is already open to you. The block mostly concerns the rest of the world — North America, Switzerland, Asia, Oceania — and, everywhere, the sellers who limited their listing to France. That's the vast majority of them.

Four obstacles stack up, and none of them is about you:

• The seller only ships within France. By far the most common case. A private seller doesn't want to deal with customs, a form, or a parcel they can't track. They tick "France only" and never look at it again.
• The site rejects your card. Many French platforms only accept cards issued in certain countries, or require a billing address that matches. More on that in our country guides.
• You have to talk to the seller. On Vinted you negotiate, ask for one more photo, check the real condition. In French, and on French hours.
• You need a French address. Even when everything else works, a France-only listing wants a French delivery address. Without one, the "Buy" button leads nowhere.

What doesn't work, or barely

Before offering our solution, let's be straight about the ones we see people try.

A VPN. It changes your IP address — not your card, not your delivery address. And that's where the check happens. It's no help for buying; at most it lets you view a geo-blocked site, which French Vinted isn't.

A friend's address in France. That solves the address, not the card or the conversation. And your friend ends up with your parcels to forward, on their time and their money. It works once. Rarely twice.

A virtual card. Issued by the same bank, in the same country as your physical card: platforms that reject one usually reject the other.

The three ways around it

1. A French address, if your card goes through

If the only obstacle is the delivery address, a French address is enough: you buy yourself, the seller ships to us, we receive and forward to you. The address is free, instant, and you stay in control of your purchases.

Its limit is clear: your card has to be accepted, and you have to be able to talk to the seller. If either one fails, move to the next option.

2. We buy for you

You send us the listing link. We check it's still available and at what real price, we ask the seller whether they'll ship to us, and we send you a quote — item by item, with our fee and the total. Nothing is bought or charged before you pay. Once paid, we buy with our own account and French card, the item arrives at our warehouse, and we open and inspect it.

It's the only option that removes all four obstacles at once: we have the account, the card, the address and the language.

3. Consolidate, and pay for one shipment

This is where it gets worthwhile. One secondhand item on its own, with international shipping on top, is expensive. Three or four items in one box are not. Your purchases wait for free for 45 days in our warehouse while you gather what you want — bought by us, or ordered by you from other sites to your French address. Everything ships together.

What it costs, in broad strokes

The item price is passed on to you to the cent, with no markup. Our service fee is a sliding percentage of the total of your items: the fuller the basket, the lower the rate. The scale is on the pricing page, and every quote spells it out line by line before you pay anything.

International shipping is paid separately, when you ask us to ship, and depends on the weight and size of the box and your destination. You can estimate yours before you order anything.

Vinted, but not only

The same block exists on the other French marketplaces, with nuances:

• eBay France — the platform is global, but many French sellers restrict their listings to France.
